Western Terrace: Lunar New Year 2026: Horseplay
-
5 Parramatta Square
Join us at PHIVE for a boisterous Lunar New Year celebration as we welcome the Year of the Fire Horse.
The Fire Horse is marked by vibrance, breakthrough and persistence. This year, the Western Terrace will be a space to gather and honour longstanding traditions by people whose cultures have resisted being reigned in, stifled and remain spirited through their artistic practices.
What to look forward to? Tea Craft are back again this year to share with you unique tea blends like the Golden Horse Brow in their tea tasting sessions, learn to fly a horse kite inspired by Vietnamese kite traditions like diều sáo (whistling kites) with artist Jenn Tran, be enamoured by Karen Tengan Okuda and Kumiko Ho as they perform classical and modern Okinawan music on the sanshin (三線) and take home a red pocket memento designed by Tea Craft’s very own Lynn Sioson using Filipino craft technique, pabalat. Curated by Emma Cao.
Later on in the evening, join us for a feast that celebrates all these cultures combined!
When: Wednesday 25 February, 6pm - 8pm
Location: Level 3, Western Terrace
Registration: Spaces are limited with some seats and standing room. Registration is essential. As this is an outdoor venue, please dress accordingly. For access requirements please contact PHIVEtickets@cityofparramatta.nsw.gov.au
The Western Terrace is a series of creative gatherings, performances and workshops taking place underneath the golden hour, as the sun sets, facing West, thinking West. Imagining the Western Terrace as an extension of their own homes, gardens and balconies, the series features artists, authors, filmmakers, musicians and community sharing domestic ritual collectively.
