Bare Skills: Water
4 Bridge Street, Granville
Is there water at the end of the world?
Join us on Friday 7 February for the next Bare Skills workshop – Water – where participants will enter an interactive space to reflect on the importance of water for survival, connection, and wellbeing.
Bare Skills: Water will begin with a river meditation exercise guided by Linda Sainsbury, inviting participants to create a symbolic river in the First Nations space using water and to drop leaves or written intentions in to float. This activity will encourage reflection on the ancient river systems of the Parramatta region, their links to Baramadagal and Dharug culture, and how we can all connect to the healing power of rivers.
Artist Benjamin Akuila will then lead a practical workshop called "Bodies with Water," showing participants how to easily carry drinkable water using hardy and reusable materials. Benjamin will demonstrate how to make a water bottle carrier using macrame techniques and survival-grade paracord.
Bare Skills is a new series of art and survival workshops for young people aged 14 to 25, developed by Parramatta Artists Studios and hosted every second month at PAS Granville.
It is a safe and inclusive space, and people with diverse identities and abilities are welcome. The ground floor of Parramatta Artists Studios in Granville will include a kitchen, communal reflection table, two workshop spaces and a themed quiet area with a resource library.
