National NAIDOC Week celebrations will kick off across the country in July celebrating and recognising Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

The NAIDOC theme for 2024 is 'Keep the fire burning! Blak, loud and proud'. This year Parramatta will be hosting a major outdoor event at Parramatta Park on Saturday 13 July, and it will definitely be worth checking it out.

Bring your friends and family along to enjoy a music concert, workshops, dance performances and market stalls. Everyone is welcome and entry is free!

Here are 5 things you can’t miss at Burramatta NAIDOC.

1.    Outdoor Concert headlined by JK-47

If you’re a hip hop fan in Australia, you should know the name JK-47 (aka Jacob Paulson) by now. Whether you know him as the Triple J Unearthed Artist of the Year, or from his jaw-dropping ‘Like A Version’ where he put a fantastic twist on Changes by 2Pac, you would already know that the talented Indigenous artist is a force to be reckoned with. His debut album Made For This was a Triple J album of the week and saw him perform at Groovin’ The Moo, Splendour In The Grass, BLUESFEST, Strawberry Fields and Yours & Owls.

JK-47 will be headlining on the concert stage this year and will be supported by a fantastic line-up of music and entertainment.

2.    First Nations Tradition and Culture

Expect both traditional and contemporary cultural activities at this year’s event in what will be a lively blend of entertainment and activities to keep the whole family smiling.

There will be a Welcome and Smoking Ceremony, traditional dancing, storytelling and some hands-on traditional crafts.

3.    Market Stalls and Food

Explore a treasure trove of Indigenous art, crafts, and products at the market stalls. Support First Nations artists and artisans while discovering unique gifts and souvenirs. From handcrafted jewellery to artworks and beautiful clothing, there's something special waiting to be found.

Food vendors on site will have some delicious offerings, so you can grab a hot meal or a dessert, cold drinks and coffees.

4.    Workshops

Get hands-on and learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture through interactive workshops. From art and native floral displays to traditional crafts, these workshops offer a unique opportunity to engage with Indigenous traditions and knowledge. Best of all, the workshops are free and open to everyone but get there early, some of them may fill up quickly.

5.    Parramatta Park

Burramatta NAIDOC is set by the river in the stunning grounds of Parramatta Park. It is the perfect place to take a stroll, relax on the grass and have a picnic, or just enjoy nature. The park covers 85 hectares and has picnic areas, playgrounds, walking and cycling tracks and historic sites. Why not stay in Parramatta after Burramatta NAIDOC and see what the park has to offer.
