Burramatta NAIDOC Program and FAQs
The theme for 2024 National NAIDOC Week is 'Keep the fire burning! Blak, loud and proud', honouring the enduring strength and vitality of First Nations culture.
This free event celebrates Indigenous history, language, art, and culture through a program of live music, artisan markets, cultural activities, and educational workshops.
The event will feature:
- Live music and entertainment featuring First Nations artists.
- Traditional dancing.
- Markets with First Nations stalls and local Indigenous businesses.
- Screenings of the First Nations documentary film Araatika: Rise up!
- Interactive cultural activities including floral displays, weaving and boomerang painting.
- Food trucks and hot drinks.

Flowers by Mercedes – radial native plants and flower arrangements. Arrive early as capacity and supplies are limited.
Wandana Aboriginal Education –selection of activities promoting and preserving Aboriginal culture.
Afternoon
12pm - 3pm
Cultured Art by Warren Lloyd – boomerang painting and hand scratch art workshop.
Weaving with Aunty Julie and Jayne Christian – an introduction to Baramattagal cultural practices of weaving.
NAIDOC Panel/truth telling 2024
Yarns will be focused on the importance of the Welcome to Country ceremony.

Yes, there will be a number of food vendors trading from 10am – 4pm including Aboriginal owned and operated Wilka Thalta.
The event will proceed in wet weather, bring your raincoat! If we need to cancel due to dangerous weather conditions, we will update the website.
Yes, parking will be subject to availability within the park and in the surrounding streets. It’s recommended patrons attend the event via public transport, via carpool or ride share apps. The closest train station is Parramatta Station or Westmead Station.
Yes, please ride with caution as there may be vehicles on the roads.
Bike parking will not be provided by City of Parramatta at this event. Bike parking will be the responsibility of the rider.
Yes. Accessible parking will be available near the event site and will be clearly signposted. Disability Parking Permits must be displayed at all times.
Alternatively, there will be a signposted drop off & pick up zone at the main entry to the event.
Public transport will be available on the day. Parramatta Station and Westmead Station are the closest train stations to the event. The event site is a 15-minute walk from Westmead Station.
No. Burramatta NAIDOC Day 2024 is a drug and alcohol-free event.
Yes, wristbands and markers will be available at the information booth throughout the day.
No. Shade tents/domes and other similar structures are not permitted at the event.
Yes, drinking water will be available from the bubbler station throughout the event.
Yes, there are toilets available at the event site including an accessible bathroom.
Yes. There will be first aid on site.
