ມາມາມາ Ma ma ma (Come come come)
Ma ma ma is a call of hospitality in Lao culture — an invitation for passersby, unexpected visitors or strangers to come and share what is offered. An act of generosity given with care, asking only to be received with respect.
The work draws from the domestic language of fruit, condiments and preserved foods, objects associated with sustenance and the rituals of feeding others. Stacked and towering, these everyday forms become exaggerated gestures of offering, holding both the generosity and the weight of care.
At the centre of the work is the quiet labour embedded within hospitality: preparing, sharing and making sure there is enough for someone else. These gestures are often ordinary and unspoken, passed between generations; they are understood through acts rather than words.
Through these objects, Ma ma ma considers cultural inheritance and the tenderness of domestic care. The work holds tension between abundance and restraint, generosity and obligation, comfort and grief. It speaks to the ways food and everyday objects can carry memory, love and the traces of labour rarely acknowledged but deeply felt.
