Here are 3 exciting things to do at Parramatta’s historical event, Foundation Day.

1. Historical tours

Step into the past at Hambledon Cottage, one of Parramatta’s most historic heritage landmarks. Built in 1824, this elegant Georgian home is NSW State Heritage-listed and offers a glimpse into the past. Once occupied by Penelope Lucas, governess to the Macarthur daughters, the cottage holds stories of domestic life, education, and social change

Wander through beautifully preserved rooms, hear tales of the families who lived there, and discover how this space helped shape the Parramatta we know today. Whether you're a history buff or simply curious, these tours offer a rich and memorable experience for all ages.

2. Demonstrations from the Village Blacksmith

Take to the streets of 19th century Parramatta and discover the craftsmanship found at local workshops.

The Village Blacksmith takes his hammer and forge on the road all over New South Wales demonstrating the art of blacksmithing. At Foundation Day, he will show various forging methods like twisting, bending, cutting, hardening and tempering over a lit-up furnace.

3. Market Stalls

From vintage finds to everyday knick-knacks, you’ll come across thoughtful treasures and gifts at Foundation Day. Parramatta is home to Australia’s first recorded fair in October 1822 and was originally organised by the Agricultural Society of NSW. The fair was a vibrant agricultural exhibition designed to promote farming, innovation and community connection. We honour that legacy with a lively marketplace at Foundation Day.

So, mark your calendars for Saturday, 1 November, gather your family and friends and get ready for a jam-packed historical day out on Foundation Day 2025!
