Western Sydney University’s MARCS Institute for Brain, Behaviour and Development conducts world-class interdisciplinary research that advances knowledge and finds sustainable solutions to practical problems concerning human interactions and communication, new and personalised technologies, and our interaction with the environment.
The MARCS Institute’s vision is to optimise human interaction and wellbeing across the lifespan. For over 20 years, research in MARCS has led advances in the understanding of how the human brain develops across the lifespan to improve the detection and treatment of brain disorders and diseases earlier, to develop assistive technologies, and to improve learning outcomes for young people and quality of life for all ages.

Westmead Innovation Quarter
The Westmead Innovation Quarter is a hub of innovation which is establishing itself as an ecosystem of collaboration between universities, government, community, healthcare, and industry partners. The Quarter’s organisations are leading world-class research in collaboration with businesses and innovators working together to solve today’s global challenges and drive better health outcomes for patients.
The three-stage development comprises 39,000sqm of mixed-use research, health, commercial, and retail space across three state-of-the-art towers. With cafes, restaurants, bars, and boutiques offering amenities to the workers, and proximity to Westmead train station and the light rail stops, the iQ’s multidisciplinary research space offers a ‘living lab’ that fosters the sharing of knowledge and resources from the region’s best minds.
