Artist Statement
The River Can Tell A Story
This artwork references the river of the Parramatta River. The river begins where it meets the ocean in Sydney Harbour and leads into surrounding catchments, creeks, and river veins.
The artwork shows reflections of the stars on water as a way of connecting stories of place between the land, sky and water.
The artist has used cultural motifs such as the circular patterns that reference meeting places and waterholes. These rivers hold significance to water life, particularly the Eels which is greatly connected to the storytelling of place.
The symbolism of land and people are connected to the riverways to acknowledge the traditional custodianship of the land and waters that we call Parramatta.
