Parramatta Artists Studios

The Parramatta Artists Studios (PAS) is the beating heart of Western Sydney's contemporary art scene. Since its inception in 2006, PAS has been a nurturing ground for emerging and established artists alike. With studio spaces in Granville and Rydalmere, the studios provide a platform for experimentation, collaboration, and innovation.

PAS offers a range of programs, including subsidised studio tenancies, artist residencies, and community-connected initiatives. Visitors can engage with the creative process through open studio days, artist talks, and workshops. The studios are home to a vibrant community of artists who are shaping the future of Australian art.

Public Art

Parramatta’s streets and public spaces are adorned with an array of stunning public art installations that celebrate the city’s heritage, culture, and identity. The City of Parramatta’s Public Art Program is dedicated to creating artworks that inspire, provoke thought, and foster a sense of belonging.

Some standout installations include:

  • "Ebb and Flow" by Craig Walsh: A mesmerising night-time video projection that captures the essence of Parramatta’s waterways.
  • "You Are Here" by Cave Urban: A striking sculpture made from recycled materials, blending art with sustainability. Created by the collective Cave Urban, celebrates the Parramatta River and the forces of nature that shaped it.
  • "Place of the Eels" by Claire Healy and Sean Cordeiro: A polished aluminium masterpiece that pays homage to the city’s heritage. Narratives woven into the details of the work include an ode to ‘The Flying Pieman’ William Francis King, a memorialisation of Rosie Bint Broheen, and the coded messages of love and support between girls at the Parramatta Industrial School for Girls.
  • “Where the Eels Lie Down” by Reko Rennie: This 7.5-metre-tall sculpture depicts two eels rising from the ground and crossing each other as they play. This striking sculpture pays homage to the eel's significance to the Dharug people of Parramatta region, intertwining indigenous culture and contemporary expression.
