About Parramatta

Parramatta is a rapidly growing, vibrant city at the heart of Greater Western Sydney, offering a unique blend of cultural diversity, economic opportunity, and modern living, while embracing its rich history and exciting future.

As the largest city centre in Greater Western Sydney, Parramatta is undergoing a period of dynamic growth and remarkable transformation. The City of Parramatta is recognised as one of Australia’s most rapidly expanding regions and a leading destination for business, education, research, art and culture, dining, nature and heritage experiences.

Home to over 260,000 residents, Parramatta is a melting pot of cultures, where people from all walks of life come together to create a vibrant and forward-thinking community. We are excited to welcome new residents like you to experience all our city has to offer!

Our central location, transport options and diverse cultural landscape attract global talent and drive economic growth, particularly in the education, health, and technology sectors. This means more education and employment opportunities closer to home.

Parramatta is a city of contrasts—where sleek high-rise buildings stand side-by-side with heritage landmarks, and bustling shopping precincts are complemented by peaceful green spaces and friendly neighbourhoods.

We are dedicated to supporting all our communities, advocating for investment and planning that benefit everyone who lives, works, or visits here. As our city continues to evolve, we’re excited to share this journey with you, and we look forward to seeing you play a part in shaping our bright future.

Strategies shaping Parramatta

We develop and deliver a variety of strategies which aim to make Parramatta a great place to live, work and visit. Residents have the opportunity to shape and provide feedback on these and other projects. To find out more visit participate.cityparramatta.nsw.gov.au.

Recently adopted, Parramatta 2050 is a long-term strategic vision that will guide our City’s transformation into a global city.

Sitting alongside Parramatta 2050 is the Community Strategic Plan (CSP) which is the community’s vision for Parramatta. It is underpinned by long-term goals and actions which reflect the community's aspirations.

The Delivery Program and Operational Plan helps to realise the vision and direction of the CSP. It is developed for four financials years and is reviewed and consulted on annually. It details Council’s budget and provides an overview of the core services, activities and projects Council will deliver in order to meet the needs of a changing and growing community.

You can read about all of the projects we’ve delivered in the last financial year in our Annual Report.
