Powerhouse Parramatta
Set to open in late 2026, Powerhouse Parramatta is the largest investment in cultural infrastructure in NSW since the Sydney Opera House and the first major cultural institution to be established in Western Sydney.

A New Cultural Precinct
The City of Parramatta Council and NSW Government signed a contract in 2017 for Council’s Riverbank site and to create a new cultural precinct on the Parramatta River. The River Foreshore precinct will include a new centre of arts, culture, and innovation including the new Powerhouse Museum and a redeveloped Riverside Theatres. Economic modelling shows that by 2028 the new cultural precinct will grow the local economy' worth to between $106 million and $422 million dollars.
The new museum will be a global cultural landmark, offering immersive experiences and world-class exhibitions. Once complete, Powerhouse Parramatta will be the largest museum in NSW, providing 18,000sqm of public and exhibition space and welcoming around 2 million visitors annually, supporting the region’s economic growth and tourism industry.
Home to over 500,000 objects in the Powerhouse Collection, no museum in Australia is better placed to demonstrate the continued impact of the applied arts and sciences on our world through technology, innovation, design and engineering.
This project represents the NSW Government’s commitment to investing in Western Sydney, supporting local businesses, creating jobs, and ensuring the region is home to high-quality cultural experiences.

The museum will feature a purpose-built play and learning space dedicated to science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM). It will also feature event and function spaces.
The Powerhouse Precinct will be a 24-hour tourist attraction seven days a week. It will drive visitation to the area, stimulating the Powerhouse Precinct economy and present opportunities for cafes, bars and retail stores.
