Student Welcome Back Blog Submissions FAQs

Outlined below are frequently asked questions and answers to assist you.

  1. How many students will be selected to develop a blog, and what will the creator/s be paid?
    • The City of Parramatta will select five students who will then go on to write their blog posts. The creator of each of the five blog posts selected will receive a one-off prize of $500. If more than one individual jointly submits a work, those individuals should decide on how the prize is divided.
  2. I am a student at another university not listed. Am I able to participate?
    • Unfortunately, not at this time. This campaign is a joint activity involving partner universities and the City of Parramatta. To be eligible you must be over 18 years of age and currently enrolled in a face-to-face degree or program at a Parramatta campus connected to Swinburne University of Technology Sydney, University of New England (UNE}, University of New South Wales (UNSW}, or The University of Sydney (USYD).
  3. Can I submit more than one blog post?
    • Yes, you may choose to develop content on one or more topics.
  4. Can I enter something I have published before?
    • No
  5. Can I film my blog post instead of writing it?
    • Yes, we are happy to accept blog post submissions in video format. These should be no more than 3 minutes in running time.
  6. What is the preferred format for videos?
    • MP4
  7. Is there a word count on written blog posts?
    • Yes, there is a word count limit of 1000 for written biogs with a minimum word count of 500 words. Each blog post must be accompanied by a captioned image you have the right to use. We encourage you to share supporting photos.
  8. What is the preferred format for written blogs?
    • MS Word document or Rich Text Format (.rtf}, double-spaced text, Arial, 12 points. The author's name should follow the proposed blog text.
  9. How do I submit my expressions of interest?
    • Send an email to wlahoud@cityofparramatta.nsw.gov.au with the following information:
      • Name and where you are studying
      • Your degree
      • Any past blog type work you have completed
      • The topic your blog will be on
      • Based on the topic above, write a short paragraph or a few dot points describing the overall angle for your article

  10. What is the closing date for the expressions of interest?
    • 20 May, 5pm
  11. What is the selection criteria?
    • Winners will be selected based on:
      • Eligibility
      • Relevance (Is the content relevant for students in Parramatta)
      • Originality (Is the content unique to our platform)
  12. What are the overarching campaign messages?
    • Welcome back to Campus: Our City is open and welcoming students back to campus and Parramatta.
    • Back to the City: Parramatta is alive with delicious eats, beautiful parklands, and venues where we can be together again.
    • The campus is where it's at: Join us back on campus to study, meet new friends and share ideas.
  13. Who is the audience for this series of blogs?
    • The audience includes new and potential students, university students wanting insider information on where to meet, eat, and access services and support in Parramatta, and international students and parents considering future study destination options.
  14. Will my work be attributed to me?
    • Where possible, yes. We can include a link to your website/portfolio within the blog post if appropriate,
  15. How will my blog be utilised?
    • The City of Parramatta Marketing and Digital teams will incorporate blog posts into a broader digital campaign to welcome students back to Parramatta. Your work may feature on the ATParramatta website and other social media activities. The Marketing sections of participating university partners will also be encouraged to promote the same campaign (including blog posts) through their communication channels. Content may be used in the recruitment of future students.
  16. If my submission is successful, how will I be notified and paid?
    • The Digital team at City of Parramatta will contact five bloggers by phone and/or email.
  17. How will my personal information be stored?
    • All forms containing personal contact details will be stored by the City of Parramatta, 126 Church Street, Parramatta, NSW, 2150. The university you nominate will be asked to confirm your status as a current student enrolled at a Parramatta campus before the winners are announced or payments processed. The author's name and university may appear online with the relevant post.
    • The City of Parramatta Marketing and Digital teams will incorporate blog posts into a broader digital campaign to welcome students back to Parramatta. Your work may feature on the ATParramatta website and in other social media activities.
