Main Stage Program

Cass Greaves DJ – all the hits with live sax and vocals too!

Junkyard Beats Show – high-energy show stage show with drumming, body percussion, dance, junk percussion, circus and hilarious skits.

Those Folk – a folk duo with breathtaking vocal harmonies alongside guitar, accordion, mandolin & banjo.

The Rajin Cajuns – Sydney based The Ragin Cajuns are concoction of Louisiana Swamp, New Orleans jazz, blues and rockabilly, dripping with feeling.

Clayton Doley - a giant of the Australian blues, jazz and soul scene, catch him in Parramatta before he heads up to Blues Fest.

Our MC for the night will be the energetic and entertaining former Triple J DJ and TV presenter Maynard.

Balloon Glow 

At 9pm the night sky will be illuminated as the stunning hot air balloon and lighting display choreographed to music begins.
 

Children’s Activities and Information

Free Activities

Junkyard Beats will be spreading the joy as they rove amongst the crowds in their up-cycled Junk Mobile with drummers, break-dancers and circus performers.

Take part in the ‘science of play’ with The Children’s Discovery Science workshops where everyone gets to discover, create, and have fun doing it.

Laser tag sessions will be free and running from 5pm – 10pm.

Football panna cages will be set up for 1 v 1 shoot outs.

Amusement Rides

Amusement rides will be running from 5pm – 10pm. Tickets for the rides can be purchased at the event.

What do I do if I have a lost child?

Please speak with event staff or security within the event site or at one of the gates.

Do you have wristbands/ID for children?

Child wristbands are available at the information booths, for parents and guardians to write their mobile number. This assists event staff and security in reuniting lost children with their parent or guardian.
 

Food & Drink

Is there food on site?

Yes, there will be food trucks on site including Black Bear BBQ serving up delicious slow cooked and smoked meats – absolute perfection! 

We also recommend bringing a picnic rug to make a comfortable space for yourself on the grass. 

Is there a bar on site?

Yes, Kombi Keg will be serving a selection of alcoholic drinks on the night at our on-site bar. You must carry valid ID to enter. 

Can I bring my own food and drinks?

Yes, you are allowed to bring your own food from home. We recommend bringing a picnic basket and/or Esky, with low foldable festival chairs or a picnic rug to make a comfortable space for yourself on the grass. Cooking equipment, such as camping gas burners, are not permitted on site.

Can I bring alcohol (BYO)?

Alcohol is permitted in small amounts for people over 18. Security may ask to inspect your bags and check ID if you are bringing alcohol into the event. Liquor brought into the park will be strictly restricted to 1 litre with a 14% maximum alcohol or 6x Beers/Ciders (5%) per person. No glass will be permitted into the park.

Where can I refill my water bottle?

Free drinking water taps are located throughout the park. Bring your own bottles and refill through the evening!

Light/medium rain will not cause cancellation of the events. As public safety is one of our priorities, adverse weather forecasts of extreme temperatures, lightning storms, torrential rain and/or strong winds may result in event cancellation. 

Where is the ATM?

There are no ATMs within the park, however, vendors will have digital payment options available.

Where are the toilets?

Toilets are in two locations; (1) Laser tag area, (2) Near the workshops.

Where is first aid?

There is a First Aid tent beside the Information tent, near the workshops.

Where can I fill up my water bottle?

Free drinking water stations are located throughout the park. Bring your own bottles and refill at one of three locations – (1) Food vendors area, (2) Laser tag area, (3) Near the workshops.

Can I bring a shade tent/dome?

No, shade tents/domes and other similar structures are not permitted at the event.

Can I bring a drone?

No, you cannot bring a drone. 

Can I bring my dog?

Yes, but they must remain on leash.

As the sun sets, head to Parramatta Park and enjoy the inaugural Balloon Glow event on Thursday 25 January. From 5pm, hot air balloons of all shapes and colours will light up the evening sky creating a spectacular display.

This free community event is a wonderful way to kick off the January public holiday weekend. Enjoy live music from folk to blues. There will be roaming entertainers, family activities and workshops, delicious food and more. Entry is free.

Bring your friends and family to Parramatta Park on 26 January to watch hot air balloons floating in the sky while tucking into a delicious barbecue breakfast spread. 

Enjoy live music and entertainment from Circular Keys Chorus and the Penrith Youth Orchestra; roaming performers including kangaroo stilt walkers and activities for the whole family. There will also be First Nations talks, dance workshops and ochre face painting.

Running from 6am until 11am, this free event is the perfect opportunity to get out of the house for a fun morning outdoors.

Adventuring with Dinosaurs 

DinoFest returns to Parramatta Park from 6-20 January and promises an amazing dinosaur experience these summer holidays. This exciting trail includes encounters with ‘real’ moving dinosaurs including a life-sized T Rex and some awesome dino activities like a dino dig and ‘feel a fossil’ with real dinosaur bones!

If that’s not enough, enjoy an interactive show Dinosaur World Live at Riverside Theatres. Grab your compass and join our intrepid explorer across uncharted territories to discover a pre-historic world of dinosaurs. Meet a host of impressive creatures, including the Tyrannosaurus Rex, a Triceratops, Giraffatitan, Microraptor and Segnosaurus!

Hot air balloon spectacular in Parramatta Park

You have two opportunities to catch a beautiful hot air balloon spectacular in Parramatta Park this January. Enjoy the inaugural Balloon Glow event as the sun sets on Thursday 25 January. 

Hot air balloons of all shapes and colours will light up the evening sky creating a spectacular display. There will also be live music, family activities, delicious food and more. 

For the early birds, watch the hot air balloons and grab a free brekkie on 26 January from 6am to 11am. There will plenty of family fun with live music, entertainment and activities. Both events are free.

Splish splash at the pool

Cool down at the world-class Parramatta Aquatic Centre (PAC). The newly-opened health, wellness and fitness hub, PAC, is home to indoor and outdoor pools, splash and play zone, gym facilities as well as spa, steam sauna area. 

Head over to Epping Aquatic Centre and take a dip in the six-lane 50-metre outdoor pool and covered toddlers’ play pool.

Free summer concert – Sydney Symphony Under the Stars: Pictures in the Sky

Join Sydney Symphony Orchestra, conductor Benjamin Northey and special guests for a starlit summer concert on 20 January in Parramatta Park.

Audiences will enjoy original works featuring the didgeridoo magic of William Barton, joined by Aunty Delmae Barton, Véronique Serret and Iva Davies AM and the transportive sitar playing of Anoushka Shankar. 

The Sydney Symphony Orchestra will close the evening with orchestral classics and a big sparkly bang.

Parramatta Park is an easy walk from train stations and multi-level carparks. Parramatta Park will be closed to all vehicles from 6am on Sunday 31 December 2023. There will be no parking inside the Park and a number of external parking spaces around the Park will not be available due to event operations.

Taking public transport to the event is strongly recommended. There may be significant traffic delays in the City around the Park due to road closures.

The Park is wheelchair accessible.

Public Transport

By Train
Westmead Station is a quick 5-minute walk via Railway Avenue and Parramatta Station is a short 12-minute walk to Parramatta Park.
Parramatta Station has rail links to most major suburban centres in Sydney and the Blue Mountains with a travel distance of just 30-minutes from Sydney CBD.
There are plenty of additional services operating on the Sydney Trains and NSW TrainLink networks.

By Bus
Parramatta is well served by buses to the interchange on Argyle Street, near Parramatta Station. Bus routes connect Parramatta with other Sydney destinations such as Castle Hill, Hornsby, Ryde, Strathfield and Sydney CBD. See www.transportnsw.info to plan your trip by public transport.

NB: routes may be changed due to road closures.

Park and Walk

Public transport is the best way to get to and from the event. If you do need to drive, there is paid parking available at parking stations throughout the Parramatta CBD.

The best entry points into the Park are through the George Street gate to the east and Park Avenue (Queens Rd) to the west.

You can view all paid parking options in Parramatta here with all Council carpark offering four hours free parking on Sundays, excluding the Parramatta Square carpark.

Paid parking is also available at Westfield Parramatta

The O’Connell Street Car Park is closed to the public on 31st December
 

Road Closures and Delays

Road closures may be actioned through the evening based on movement through the City, while a large number of parking spaces around the park will not be available due to event operations. Expect some traffic delays throughout the City and surrounding Parramatta Park.

There will be a number of parking restrictions in place around Parramatta on Sunday 31st December. 
There will be no vehicle access into Parramatta Park on Sunday 31 December.

On street parking will be removed on:
Park Ave between Queens Rd and Railway Parade from 6am (Park side of road)
Railway Parade between Park Ave and Westmead Station from 6am (Westmead Station side of road)
Pitt St between Macquarie St and Park Avenue (Park side of road) from 6am.

Expected Road Traffic Impacts:
WESTMEAD:
Between 8pm and 10pm increased pedestrian movements along Railway Parade, Park Avenue and Queens Parade in Westmead may result in traffic delays. Please drive carefully and take direction of Traffic Controllers and Police at all times.

PARRAMATTA 
Between 8pm and 10pm increased pedestrian movements along George Street, Pitt Street and O’Connel Street in Parramatta may result in traffic delays. Please drive carefully and take direction of Traffic Controllers and Police at all times.

Pedestrian & Cycling Access Closures – Sunday 31st December
The Parramatta River cycle way between O’Connell Street Bridge and the Parramatta Park weir will be closed from 6am on event day. 

Cyclists

Event operations for City of Parramatta’s New Years Eve 2023 will take place in and around the Park from 28 December through 3 January. Cyclists please be aware there will be changed traffic conditions during this time. Please ride carefully and follow any safety instructions. Large delivery vehicles may temporarily block the cycling and pedestrian loop when they move into position on site, please be patient during these short delays.

Accessible Parking

A small number of accessible parking spaces are provided in the parking lot at the corner of Park Avenue and Railway Avenue for your convenience during specific hours:

Availability
From 4 pm to 8:00 pm for arrival and departure. Departures can commence from 9:45 pm with an accessibility buggy to assist attendees to and from the site.

Important Notice
To accommodate the significant number of attendees during the fireworks display, all vehicles must be in the designated car park by 8:00 pm. This ensures participation in the final buggy to the event site before 8:15 pm. Return buggy services will commence from approximately 9:45 pm. Please be advised that the return buggy to the car park will only be possible once crowds have dispersed.

Access Inside the Park

Are there accessible viewing areas?
The Crescent Stage will feature accessible viewing areas, marked on the event maps.

Crescent Amphitheatre:
Two accessible viewing spaces are available.
The first is at the end of the accessible ramp at the top of the Crescent, with accessible restroom nearby, located at Coronation Hill
The second is to the southern side of the stage, with accessible restrooms adjacent to the stage compound.
Refer to the map for details on accessible routes and facilities onsite.
If you require assistance during the event, please notify event staff.
An accessible buggy will operate along a designated route to assist those with accessibility needs. Stops will be clearly signposted, and the buggy will arrive at each stop approximately every 12-15 minutes. This service will run until 8 pm.

Are there accessible toilets onsite?
Yes, accessible toilets will be within the event site.

The Great Hall boasts heritage features, modern enhancements including high- quality audio-visual and lighting capabilities, plus an open catering policy that provides flexibility. The light filled Southern Terrace sits alongside The Great Hall, providing a stunning space for pre-function drinks or entertainment.

The Southern Terrace 

Maximum Capacity: 100  

The brand-new light filled Southern Terrace is the latest addition to Parramatta Town Hall. Directly opening onto the vibrant Parramatta Square, the Southern Terrace can be used as a contemporary pre-function space for the Great Hall or as a standalone cocktail or long-table dining space.

Charles Byrnes Room 

Maximum Capacity: 24 - 50  

Rich in history and historical significance, the Charles Byrnes Room boasts artful ceilings and stately architectural features. Audio-visual capabilities and adjacent kitchenette make this the perfect venue for boardroom style meetings and workshops, and intimate cocktails or community events.

Inspector of Nuisances Room 

Maximum Capacity: 10 

The perfect spot for meetings or workshops, the Inspector of Nuisances Room contains an original vault, heritage fireplace and heritage artefact display. This historical room is filled with charm and interest and is sure to inspire imaginations. Curiously named, this room pays homage to the original function of the room when the building was first opened.

Town Clerk Room 

Maximum Capacity: 10 

The Town Clerk Room overlooking Centenary Square at the front of Parramatta Town Hall formerly housed a free public library and was used as the office of the Town Clerk. This unique, hireable space is perfect for breakout workshops, small meetings or can be used as a green room.

Total Capacity: 389 +
